STUDENTS and teachers from a North Yorkshire school raised more than £600 for charity by wrapping presents for shoppers.

Twenty-five pupils and three teachers from Sherburn High School, near Selby, held the Wrappathon service and sang Christmas carols at The Light shopping centre in Leeds, to raise money for Help for Heroes and the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

Last year, the event raised £341, but this year shoppers donated £645.34 to the cause.

Teacher Sol Dumaine, the event organiser, said: “The students were amazing and so professional, Vicki Bradley (music teacher) and Emma Barnett (teaching assistant) did a fantastic job of getting the best out of the students, there was a great atmosphere and the public helped to raise Christmas spirits.

“I am extremely proud of everyone, they were a credit to the school.”
