WIGGINTON Squash and Social Club are holding an open weekend to celebrate the completion of works carried out through a £46,400 Olympic Legacy grant, writes Simon Ritchie.
The York club, which has 240 playing and social members, used the money to update the heating at their Mill Lane headquarters, install solar panels and a create a fitness suite.
The money came from Sport England’s Inspired Facilities Fund.
The club, which was founded in 1979, has also introduced a new online booking system, which they paid for through their own funds. The open weekend takes place this Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 4pm on both days.
Visitors of all ages will be able to look around the premises and book a free game of squash or racketball, or even a coaching session. Free soft drinks will be available.
There will also be a raffle with prizes including free playing and social memberships up for grabs.
