THE Nigel Worthington era at York City started with a 3-2 defeat at npower League Two basement side AFC Wimbledon.

The Minstermen twice came from behind to level under new manager Worthington at Kingsmeadow, but the hosts conjured a winner 11 minutes from time.

Mat Mitchel-King gave the Dons a 21st-minute lead, but City centre-back Chris Smith levelled eight minutes later after good work by Ashley Chambers.

The home side forged ahead again on the hour through Brennan Dickenson, but the Minstermen again came back with Smith's 72nd-minute equaliser.

Harry Pell then struck the winner for Wimbledon in the 79th minute in front of a crowd of 4,349, including 529 away fans.

The defeat saw the Minstermen drop to 19th in the table ahead of Tuesday's Bootham Crescent clash with Rochdale.

Barnet won to move above City and Aldershot drew to move level on points, while Plymouth slipped to the foot of the table. Second from bottom Accrington are three points behind York.

Worthington, who replaced Gary Mills on Monday, handed recalls to Michael Rankine, Paddy McLaughlin and Jamal Fyfield in his first City line-up.

Dropped duo Jason Walker and Alex Rodman came off the bench in the 66th minute, replacing Matty Blair and McLaughlin.
