AMPLEFORTH College boast rugby union World Cup winner Lawrence Dallaglio among their former pupils, but head of PE Graham Muckalt is hoping to unearth another gem at next week’s 2013 Rosslyn Park HSBC National Schools 7s.
The Rosslyn Park 7s is the world’s largest rugby union tournament with some 7,000 boys and girls aged 13 to 18 competing annually and, since the competition began in 1939, Ampleforth College have won 11 titles, the majority coming in the 1980s with Dallaglio in their ranks.
Muckalt is hoping to get the school’s first success since 1989 when he takes an under-18 and U16 boys’ side to the capital.
“The Rosslyn Park 7s is a competition we look forward to every year and it is the pinnacle of the season really,” he said.
• HSBC is proud to sponsor the world’s largest school rugby union tournament. All HSBC’s rugby sponsorships aim to help develop and grow the sport and ensure even more youngsters get involved with rugby. For more information visit www.rpns7.co.uk
