AN early case of ‘seconditis’ fatally wounded Richard Fahey’s bid for an eighth successive York Racecourse top trainer’s title.
Gabrial’s Kaka was always prominent in the opening Coral Mobile Three Clicks To Bet Stakes but Seek Again (3-1 fav) hugged the stands’ side rail to prevail, while Area Fifty One found Seussical (6-1) four lengths too good in the Coral App Download From The App Store Stakes.
That meant Nawton trainer David O’Meara got his hands on the Knavesmire crown without needing to add a final day winner to his season’s tally of ten.
He said: “We’ve had some nice horses this year and it has been a great team effort. Everyone, from the owners to the staff, love having a winner at York and really enjoy it.
“We started with a lead over Richard Fahey but he is very dangerous here and has won it for the last seven years.
“We have kept it in Yorkshire, at a Yorkshire-based stable, and that’s great.”
Double figures were also enough to see Ryan Moore confirmed as the track’s top jockey.
The prizes will be presented at the first meeting of the 2014 season in May.
