YORK City boss Billy McEwan aims to act quickly to avoid a goalkeeping crisis at KitKat Crescent after reserve team net-minder Arran Reid left the club by mutual consent.
The Minstermen today said the 20-year-old asked to be released from his contract for personal reasons' and is now believed to be pursuing a career in the building industry.
Reid, who came through City's youth ranks and signed professional forms last summer, has been the club's regular number two all year.
His departure means Tom Evans is now City's only senior goalkeeper and McEwan has confirmed he is on the hunt to sign a new face in time for Saturday's home match with Forest Green Rovers.
Reid made his debut in the Minstermen's 3-0 defeat at Crawley, last October, after Evans was sent off.
He was then handed his first senior start in the 3-2 defeat against Morecambe, at KitKat Crescent, the following week, and drew praise from McEwan for his display. Those two games proved to be his only first team appearances.
Reid first arrived at City in 2003, as a first-year trainee, and was a member of the team which beat Northallerton 3-1 to lift the North Riding Senior Cup last season.
McEwan said: "Arran has been at the club for a long time now and has always made a positive contribution. We all wish him well for the future."
It is thought Reid will look to play football part-time while forging a new career away from the professional ranks.
Meanwhile, City have reminded supporters sitting in the Main Stand (Sections A, B and C) that from the Forest Green match they are no longer able to pay at the turnstile.
Fans will instead have to pay at the ticket office prior to the match.
Tickets are on sale now and can be bought by telephone or in person up until kick-off on match-days.
The ticket office is open from 9am to 5pm on weekdays and from 10am until kick off on match days.
Credit and debit card transactions, however, will incur a £1 booking fee.
