FORMER Republic of Ireland international Eddie Nolan has signed for York City.
The 26-year-old right back has moved to Bootham Crescent after being released by Scunthorpe, where he worked under current City boss Russ Wilcox.
Nolan made 40 appearances during Wilcox’s 2013/14 promotion-winning season with the Iron despite being ruled out by injury for six weeks.
But he fell out of favour under new Glanford Park boss Mark Robins last term, making just 11 appearances – including his last in late February – having suffered neck, hamstring and ankle problems earlier in the campaign.
The 6ft defender started his career at Blackburn, where he made one appearance – his debut at the age of 18 in a 1-0 UEFA Cup victory over Nancy, where he played alongside the likes of Robbie Savage, Brad Friedel and Benni McCarthy.
While at Ewood Park, he went out on loan to Stockport, Hartlepool and Preston, who he joined on a permanent basis in 2009.
Further loan spells with Sheffield Wednesday and Scunthorpe followed and he has spent the last four years at Glanford Park.
He played in a variety of positions for Wilcox – including left back and in the centre of midfield - but is expected to be used primarily as a right back or wing back at Bootham Crescent.
Having captained his country at under-21 level, Nolan made his senior debut during a 1-1 draw with Nigeria in May 2009 and went on to win another two caps.
During his club career, he has played 215 games and scored twice.
