YORK City have confirmed that Richard Cresswell will take on a caretaker manager role while the club look for a successor to sacked chief Russ Wilcox.
Ex-City, Leeds and Sheffield Wednesday striker Cresswell was the head of football operations and first-team coach during Wilcox’s reign.
He will be assisted in his temporary position by youth-team manager Jonathan Greening and goalkeeping coach Andy Leaning.
City are now inviting applications for the managerial vacancy, which should be emailed to club secretary Lisa Charlton at lisa.charlton@yorkcityfootballclub.co.uk
Interviews will then be held by the board of directors but a new appointment is not expected to be made before Saturday’s Sky Bet League Two clash at Crawley Town.
