DUNFERMLINE defender Shaun Rooney has signed a two-year deal at York City.
The 19-year-old has become Jackie McNamara’s second signing of the day following the earlier arrival of fellow full-back Alex Whittle from Southport.
The right back began his career with Dundee United in 2010 but, after failing to make the break through at Tannadice, moved to Scottish League Two side Queen’s Park three years later.
Rooney went on to make 42 appearances in all competitions for the Hampden Park outfit, helping them to the play-offs in his second season after netting four times in 30 outings.
Other honours included being named in the division’s Team of the Year and voted the club’s Young Player of the Year, before Scottish League One side Dunfermline Athletic secured his services on a one-year deal last summer.
During his solitary season with the Pars, Rooney was a member of the squad that clinched the third-tier title at the end of the campaign, making a total of 14 appearances for Allan Johnston’s side.
