REECE Thompson has joined York City’s National League rivals North Ferriby United after leaving Bootham Crescent by mutual consent.
The 22-year-old forward was recruited by former City boss Russ Wilcox last summer after scoring in a friendly against Newcastle during a pre-season trial from Frickley Athletic.
He went on to net three times in his first seven professional outings for the Minstermen but missed four months of the campaign due to illness and has failed to hit the target in his last ten outings for the club.
Thompson’s only appearance this season came as a 69th-minute substitute during Saturday’s 4-1 win over Woking.
He will join fellow former Minstermen Taron Hare and Simon Russell at Ferriby, who are the league’s lowest scorers with just five goals from their opening seven fixtures.
