YORK City have pulled off a double transfer swoop - on boss Billy McEwan's first day back at work.
The Minstermen manager returned from holiday and immediately got to work in the market, signing left-back Mark Robinson from Torquay United and striker Onome Sodje from Ebbsfleet United.
The pair have both come to KitKat Crescent on free transfers and the speed at which they have arrived is indicative of McEwan's desire to build an impressive squad ahead of City's Blue Square Premier promotion charge next season.
Robinson, a 25-year-old from Guisborough, played 18 times for relegated Torquay last season having joined the seaside club in January from Stockport County where he spent two years - making 59 appearances and scoring four goals.
The former Middlesbrough junior began his career at Hartlepool United, playing 85 times for 'Pool, before spending a season at Hereford. Robinson has also turned out twice for Scarborough during a loan period at the McCain Stadium three years ago.
It is believed his desire to return to the north was a key factor in his decision to carve out a career at York.
Onome Sodje scored as a substitute against City at KitKat Crescent last season when Ebbsfleet, then known as Gravesend & Northfleet, took a 2-0 victory away from York.
The 18-year-old Nigerian was on the books at Charlton before going on loan and signing for Gravesend after being released by The Addicks. Sodje is one of a host of sporting stars in his family.
His cousins and uncles, Sam, Efe, Akpo, Steve and Bright are all sportsmen - playing for Reading, Southend, Port Vale and Ashford Town while Bright - now retired - played rugby league for Sheffield Eagles, Hull KR, Wakefield and Hunslet.
Last season, Sodje notched up nine league goals for 'Fleet, his last for the club coming in a 1-1 draw at home to Forest Green Rovers in April.
Sophie McGill, York City's community and communications director, said: "Billy McEwan has worked very hard behind the scenes.
"We are now at a time when we can start to announce the players who will be joining us for next season. We are very pleased to welcome Mark Robinson and Onome Sodje into the squad. We think they are very good additions to those players who have already signed."
