FORMER York City midfielder Mark Convery has been snapped up by Cambridge United.
The 26-year-old has gone to the Abbey Stadium on a two-year deal after being released by Minstermen boss Billy McEwan at the end of last season.
Several clubs were interested in signing the ex-Darlington player, whose season at York was curtailed by a broken foot which kept him on the sidelines for several months, but he plumped for the Us.
Cambridge boss Jimmy Quinn said: "He's very good on the ball and he gives us several options in midfield. He's not the biggest player, but he's very, very skilful and he's very good at set plays.
"He's a quality player and technically he's excellent, and he's sharp and bright in and around the box too."
Meanwhile, the Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu, is to become the patron of the Minstermen.
Dr Sentamu, who is already a season ticket holder, followed the team last season and has become a regular at home matches.
The Archbishop said: "As the original man from the Minster, I am of course delighted to lend my voice in support of the Minstermen."
