YORK City have signed released Hartlepool winger Connor Smith.
The Stockton-born, 20-year-old becomes City’s second new recruit of the summer, following the arrival of Michael Rankine.
Smith has been on Pool’s books from under-12 level and made his senior debut at the age of 17 during a 2-0 home defeat against Exeter in May 2013, alongside the likes of former Minstermen Scott Flinders and Michael Duckworth.
In total, Smith has made 19 appearances – but only six from the start – for the Victoria Ground club and he went on loan to Evo-Stik Northern Premier League team Whitby last term, having been restricted to just two sub outings for Pool in 2016/17.
He is yet to score an official goal at professional level, but did manage a hat-trick during Hartlepool’s 9-0 pre-season friendly triumph over Billingham Town in 2015.
On his move to Bootham Crescent, Smith said: “I’m hoping to play as many games as I can and get as many goals and assists as possible. As a club, we will also be looking to get out of the division at the first time of asking.”
