YORK City midfielder Phil Turnbull will miss the start of the season with the shoulder injury he suffered at Frickley Athletic.
Turnbull is waiting to see another consultant before a clearer assessment of the damage is known, although City boss Billy McEwan believes the early signs suggest he will not be sidelined for the six months initially feared for a dislocation.
McEwan did confirm, though, that the 20-year-old former Hartlepool midfielder will be out for a "wee while".
He said: "At the moment, we can't put a date on how long Phil Turnbull will be out but it's going to be for a wee while, which is a hammer blow for the boy and us.
"He's come to a new club and wants to impress so I feel sorry for him, but we will just have to get him right now."
Turnbull and fellow injury victim Danny Parslow (ankle) will be the only senior players missing from tonight's squad for the trip to last season's Northern Counties East League premier division champions Sheffield FC.
McEwan has named an otherwise full-strength squad with trialists Brian Dutton and Carl Jones handed another opportunity to impress. But trialist goalkeeper James Lester misses out with a knee problem and McEwan has decided not to retain New Zealand Under-20 international defender Tim Schaeffers following his second-half outing at Frickley.
City fans can expect certain first-team players to be given the full 90 minutes tonight, in particular midfielder Stuart Elliott, who has only managed seven minutes from the club's last two friendlies.
Tonight's game kicks off at 7.30pm and follows Sheffield's match last night against Glasgow Rangers reserves, which formed part of the UniBond League club's 150th-year anniversary celebrations.
