FORMER York City inside-forward John Edgar has died at the age of 71.
Edgar still holds the record for City's quickest hat-trick having netted three times in six minutes during a 3-0 victory over Accrington Stanley at Bootham Crescent in October 1959.
The Barnsley-born player made 50 appearances and scored 18 times during two years with the Minstermen.
Playing alongside City legend Norman Wilkinson, he finished the Minstermen's top scorer with 17 goals during the 1959/60 season.
Injury restricted his progress with City and, having joined the club from Gillingham, he later played for Hartlepool and Exeter.
