YORK City boss Colin Walker watched his side stuff Stafford 4-0 and then called for a repeat performance at KitKat Crescent before the end of the season.
Second-half goals from Martyn Woolford, Richard Brodie, Stuart Elliott and Mark Robinson confirmed Stafford's relegation from the Blue Square Premier, while results elsewhere ended the Minstermen's remote chances of reaching the play-offs.
But, with three home games still left to play, Walker has asked his team to reward supporters with a similar display to that witnessed by 52 travelling fans last night.
City entertain Woking on Saturday before playing host to Oxford on Tuesday and Farsley seven days later, and Walker said: "Our first-half performance seemed a little like a hangover after losing 6-1 at Crawley on Saturday. We were a bit sloppy and lacking in confidence a little, but we knew that might happen.
"When the first goal went in, though, it lifted everybody and we played some great football - the kind that we have tried to play all season. We dominated the game and beat them out of sight. It could have been eight or nine.
"I know they are one of the bottom teams and that will probably be thrown at us, but we have got to do that to more teams. We've got to kick on and do it at home and give the home crowd that type of performance.
"The players took a lot of stick and so did I after Saturday and rightly so, but you've also got to look at the bigger picture and what we've achieved over the last 30 games."
Walker was also pleased to keep a clean sheet after shipping nine goals in two matches and experimented with zonal marking at defensive set-pieces for the first time.
He said: "While I'm not saying it's the answer to all our problems, we want to keep players thinking about their game and responsibilities. We've been marking men and that hasn't seemed to work.
"The players were a bit edgy at times but, if that's the way we go, it will take time to get used to it."
Elliott scored a goal of the season contender from an attacking dead-ball delivery after Woolford picked him out 25 yards from goal.
"It was an absolutely terrific goal and wrapped up a very good performance from Stuart," Walker said.
Teenage striker Adam Boyes also made his league debut as a second-half sub and Walker was pleased with his performance.
He said: "I thought the young kid looked the part and that can only be good for York City. Onome Sodje was making some great runs down the sides and I only brought him off to give Adam a go. He acquitted himself really well."
Skipper Manny Panther, meanwhile, returned to the City line-up after a two-game absence and Walker was encouraged by his display as well, adding: "He's still not 100 per cent fit, but Manny showed strength and power and we will have to see how he is between now and Saturday."
Fellow midfielder Simon Rusk, who was left out of last night's 16, will play no part in City's next two matches. He has picked up a two-game suspension after being shown his tenth yellow card of the season at Crawley.
