A 78th minute goal from striker Harry Clapham enabled Selby Town to beat Horbury Town for the second time this season in a Northern Counties East League division one clash.

Selby had previously beaten unbeaten Horbury in late September to condemn Horbury to their first defeat of the season courtesy of a Liam Flanagan goal, and the Town striker the Robins ahead again on this occasion with a well-taken penalty.

Horbury got an equaliser via a Gibril Bojang free-kick, but Clapham sealed the points late on.

From the midweek loss to Retford Town, Ryan Cooper made changes.

Brett Souter made his debut in goal, whilst Conor Qualter, Charlie Smith, and Caden Mcgrath came back into the side.

Selby attacked the game early on, but a cross from the right was comfortably dealt with by the arms of home keeper Elliot Lightowler.

Just nine minutes Souter showed his class, as a ball was crossed in from the right to the edge of the six-yard area, where a shot was thundered goalwards but the new goalkeeper showed great reflexes to divert the effort for a corner.

At the other end James Danby shot just wide and Lightowler gathered a Kyle Fish effort under his crossbar.

Town had a scare when Souter fumbled a shot but recovered to place a hand on the ball, as the Horbury players attempted to attack the rebound.

A few minutes later Town took the lead as Clapham was hauled down in the penalty area and Flanagan netted from the resultant penalty kick.

Horbury got the equaliser on 34 minutes when Bojang hit a superb freekick that Souter had no chance with.

Just before the break, Selby came close again with Conor Qualter heading a corner inches wide and Clapham hitting a shot just over the bar.

Heading into the second half, the Robins started the second period brightly as Fish came close to tucking the ball home from close-range.

However Town were indebted to Qualter who made a great tackle on a Horbury player as he was bearing down on Souter.

The resultant corner saw James Smith head over the bar.

Souter made a great parrying save over his bar after a shot from Bojang, but then at the other end Lightowler foiled Caden Mcgrath with a great save whilst Dan Davison was also foiled by the keeper.

Town got the winning goal on 78 minutes when a superb passing movement involving a number of players saw Davison thread a great ball through on the left to Clapham, who bypassed Lighthowler before placing the ball into the far corner of the net.

Town were now on top with Clapham blazing over the bar after a great flanagan pass and Davison brought a great save out of Lightowler.

Five minutes of injury time saw Town having to defend well but the game ended with a deserved win.
