YORK Valkyrie forward Elisa Akpa is set to swap the Betfred Women’s Super League for the rapidly-growing NRLW.

The French captain, who returned for a second spell with the Valkyrie midway through last season’s historic League Leaders’ Shield and Grand Final double, was due to link up with Anfield’s side again this term wearing the 17 shirt.

However, due to visa problems, the powerful prop has been unable to re-join York, and has instead been in contact with clubs in the NRLW.

Akpa scored two tries and four goals for the Valkyrie last term, and could follow fellow ex-Valkyrie forward Hollie-Mae Dodd in making the move down under after the second-rower became the first English woman to do so when she penned a contract with Canberra Raiders last year.

Anfield admits she has been disappointed not to have been able to call upon Akpa’s services during a tough period that has seen her side fall to back-to-back defeats for the first time since 2021, but wishes her all the best in her new venture.

“We really wanted to keep her in York but unfortunately due to visa restrictions, she wasn’t able to stay,” she explained.

“She’s actually in Australia now talking with some NRLW clubs to hopefully play over there.

“We wish her all the best over in Australia.”

The Valkyrie boss also provided an update on Manqualo Komaitai, who joined the club from the British Army at the beginning of March.

Highly recommended by fellow centre Carrie Roberts, she has not yet featured for her new club due to injury.

"Koms, she, in training in the middle of March broke her leg near her ankle," Anfield revealed.

"She was then recalled to the Army to do her rehab, but she's on the way back, she's on the mend. But we haven't actually had her back at training yet."
