PROMISING striker Adam Boyes will be hunting more glory when York City enter the first qualifying round of the FA Youth Cup tonight.
The Minstermites face Whitley Bay at KitKat Crescent (kick off 7.30pm) hoping for a repeat of the 4-0 hammering they doled out to the Tyneside club at the same stage of the competition last year.
They go into the clash in good spirits having seen off Sunderland RCA 5-0 in the preliminary round, but coach Neil Redfearn is insisting on a professional approach from his team – expecting the visitors to be fired up for the tie.
Boyes, who has been hovering around the fringes of the first team and had a trial with Manchester United in the summer, scored two in the previous round and is part of a fully fit squad of first and second year trainees.
Goalkeeper Jonathan McDonald returns to the side having recovered from the thigh strain which forced him to miss out against Sunderland and supporters are reminded the match will go to extra time, and penalties if necessary, as there are no replays in the FA Youth Cup.
Last season, City’s youths went all the way to the competition’s third round before falling 3-0 to Chester at the Deva Stadium. That ended a run which saw them scalp a Bury side coached by former Minstermen manager Chris Brass.
Admission is £4 for adults (£2 concessions) and the KitKat Crescent Social Club will be open before and after the game as well as at half time. There will also be a match programme on sale.
