YORK City manager Martin Foyle believes Adam Boyes’ call-up into the England ‘C’ squad will further his development as a footballer.
The 18-year-old striker, previously on standby for the away match against Malta Under-21s, will now join the international party after tomorrow’s Blue Square Premier meeting with Forest Green at KitKat Crescent.
Foyle is also hoping the England selectors will give right-back Ben Purkiss more time to prove his fitness as he continues to struggle with a strained stomach muscle.
The City boss said: “It’s brilliant news for Adam and I’m absolutely delighted for him. He’s impressed since being given a chance to play for the first team and playing for your country at any level is a great achievement.
“He will be mixing with different people and players and that’s how you grow up as a player, which he has done in the last few weeks as well. We’ve also got to look after him and keep monitoring him. He will probably be in and out of our team between now and the end of the season.”
