RELEASED Tranmere Rovers centre-back Luke Waterfall has been taken on trial by York City.
Waterfall will figure in tomorrow’s Bootham Crescent friendly against Bradford City (3pm), along with fellow trialists Jimmy Jackson and Djoumin Sangare.
But right-back Joe Wilcox has now moved on and is hoping to secure a deal at Blue Square Premier rivals Kidderminster.
Former Barnsley trainee Waterfall, 18, was handed a one-year contract at Tranmere last summer after impressing during a pre- season spell with the League One club. The Sheffield-born defender made two appearances for Rovers last season and also enjoyed one outing during a loan spell at Altrincham in October.
He has just spent a week on trial at Oxford United and is expected to share centre-back duties with Sangare, Daniel Parslow and Alan O’Hare against the Bantams at Bootham Crescent.
David McGurk is unlikely to be risked as he recovers from a minor heel problem and City manager Martin Foyle is planning on fielding two entirely different teams for each half, as he did during last weekend’s 3-3 draw against Leeds.
Foyle added: “We were at the running track on Tuesday, did a possession exercise at PlayFootball on Wednesday and walked and talked them through some shape work yesterday, as well as working on finishing with the strikers.
“In the next two games, we are looking for an understanding from the players on where we are coming from in training. We need them to take what they are learning on to the pitch.”
Meanwhile, Foyle is still pursuing several avenues in his search for a new striker.
“I think the door was closed on Michael Gash the last time we spoke to Ebbsfleet, but discussions concerning Scott Rendell are not dead in the water just yet,” he said.
Bradford have won their first two pre-season friendlies with Saturday’s 2-1 victory over Premier League new boys Burnley followed by a 2-0 triumph at Bradford Park Avenue on Wednesday night.
Former City midfielder Lee Bullock will be returning to Bootham Crescent to face his old club.
