YORK City leading scorer Richard Brodie picked up a foot injury in England ‘C’s 2-1 win against Poland under-23s last night.
But the 22-year-old striker is still hoping to be fit for City’s Blue Square Premier clash at AFC Wimbledon on Saturday.
Brodie had a goal disallowed and glanced a header narrowly wide during an impressive performance in Poznan.
England won the match thanks to goals from Brodie’s strike partner Chris Holroyd, of Cambridge, and Kidderminster’s Matthew Barnes-Homer, who replaced the City forward on 65 minutes.
Brodie suffered a blow to the top of his foot and admitted the hosts proved intimidating opposition.
He said: “They had two big, strong, horrible centre-backs who kicked me all the way through the game. They should have both been sent off as I was fouled about eight or nine times.”
Brodie has also been nominated for the E.ON Player of the Round competition for his two-goal performance in City’s 3-2 FA Cup victory over League Two Crewe.
