LEADING gymnasts will be regular visitors to York as part of the build up to the 2012 Olympic Games in London.
York Gymnastics Centre – an approved 2012 training venue – played host to a three-day trial for 20 Olympic hopefuls, with two selected to represent England at the Leverkusen Cup in Germany this weekend.
Stan Wild, director of the gymnastics centre, said: “The group meets four times a year in the best gymnastics centres around the country in Aldershot, Newcastle, Ipswich and now York.
“The visit to York was such a success that we will now become a regular training venue leading up to the Olympics.”
The next event at the centre is the Yorkshire Team Championships on Sunday, from 10am to 3pm.
York Artistic Sports Club has three teams entered.
