A TRIO of successful rinks helped York Indoor Bowls Club Ladies make it two wins out of two in the North Eastern League, toppling Cave 93-61.

At home, Joyce Gee’s team broke from a narrow 7-6 lead to romp to an emphatic 27-9 victory.

Barbara Dawson’s side got off to a good start, with three fours and a five in the first eight ends to lead 19-3. Though Cave countered, the hosts eased home to win 26-17.

Away, Pat Bracken’s team trailed 9-8 after nine ends but blasted back to win 25-12.

The rink led by Irene Paylor staged a final flourish over the last four ends, but could not halt a 21-15 defeat.

York’s run in the Vivienne Trophy faulted at the first hurdle as they were beaten 89-56 by Lincoln, to whom they lost all four rinks.

At home, Dawson’s team picked up five shots over the last three ends but still lost 18-13, while Pauline Armitage’s rink paid for yielding 11 shots over three ends when succumbing 29-15.

Away, Maureen Robinson’s team staged a comeback but were inched out 20-15, while there was a 22-13 loss for Paylor’s team.

Meanwhile, York play in the last 32 of the Denny Cup against The Parks from North Shields on Saturday, starting at 10am.

Two hours later, York Ladies look to gain revenge on Thornaby, who pipped them in the last match to win the Yorkshire League last season.

At Huntington Road, New Earswick take on Scarborough in the Hebden Trophy, again starting at noon.
