ALTHOUGH York City’s FA Trophy clash was able to beat the freeze, there was precious little of local sport to get the better of the wintry wipe-out.
Volunteers came to the aid of the Minstermen in helping to shift snow off the Bootham Crescent pitch on Saturday morning.
However, elsewhere just one football match managed to be played in the entire Minster Engineering Football League programme on Saturday as a combination of snow, frost or water-logged grounds exacted a heavy toll.
The whole York Sunday Morning League fixture-list was wiped out with only a handful of York FA cup-ties surviving.
All the area’s rugby union teams, save for Selby, and all the rugby league teams were forced to cool their heels on the wintry sidelines.
