YORK City Knights’ first pre-season fixture – the annual Lee McTigue Memorial Match against the York Select XII – has been rearranged for Bank Holiday Monday, January 3, kick off 3pm.

The annual charity game at Huntington Stadium, scheduled for Monday, December 27, has fallen to the big freeze, with club chiefs having taken the decision early to move it back a week.

The pitch is frozen and the forecast is for minus temperatures to continue throughout the Christmas weekend.

As revealed in The Press, four of the Championship One Grand Final-winning side, plus five off-season recruits, were set to play for the Knights. The squad for the new match-day will be confirmed next week.

Knights general manager Ian Wilson said: “It’s a couple of days after New Year and still a Bank Holiday and hopefully there’ll be a thaw and lots of people turn out.”
