LUTON Town have been rebuffed after making another bid for York City centre-back David McGurk.
The Hatters first tried to prise McGurk away from Bootham Crescent in November, offering City £40,000 for his services on the completion of a one-month loan spell.
Now, City boss Gary Mills has revealed Luton have inquired again about the 28-year-old defender’s availability since the transfer window reopened but shot down rumours of an £80,000 offer.
Mills said: “Luton have been on to us again but, in terms of the amounts mentioned, there’s no truth in that at all. They want Dave but I want to keep him – there’s no two ways about that.
“I am trying to build a team and a squad capable of getting us out of this league and I don’t want to lose him.”
But, with the continued interest in McGurk, Mills has admitted he is prudently considering contingency plans and is monitoring the situation of former Minstermen defender Luke Graham, who moved from Bootham Crescent to Kettering in the summer.
“I know Luke and, when a situation arises with people chasing your players, you need to look around as well,” the City boss added. “I also like to run with three centre-halves and, even though Dan Parslow plays there, I think he’s been doing really well at right-back.”
Luton, meanwhile, have agreed to let City fans, who still have the original ticket for last month’s abandoned match at Kenilworth Road, in for half-price at next Tuesday’s rearranged fixture.
Last week’s postponed home match against Fleetwood has been rescheduled for Tuesday, February 15, while the trip to Altrincham will now be played on Tuesday, February 22.
