A BROKEN leg has ruled Tadcaster Albion midfielder Andy Sunley out for the rest of the season.
The Brewers, who face Lincoln Moorlands Railway in a fourth versus fifth showdown in the Northern Counties East League premier division tomorrow, have serious injury worries ahead of the match and their President’s Cup semi-final against Bridlington Town on Tuesday night.
Sunley broke the tibia and fibula in his right leg following a challenge during Taddy’s 3-2 loss to Scarborough Athletic at Ings Lane on Tuesday night.
He joins Andy Dawson (hamstring), Matty Howgate, Nick Thompson, Paul James and Danny Farthing on the sidelines, with boss Paul Marshall adding that Terry Taylor is also likely to miss the game as he continues to fight for fitness following an ankle injury.
With Callum Ward also away on county FA representative duty, it has left Marshall’s resources severely stretched ahead of a vital few days in what has so far been a promising campaign.
Marshall says injuries are to blame for Tadcaster’s inconsistent form of late but he says the club are determined not to let their first season in the NCEL top flight peter out.
“We have been in the top four all season and we don’t want to drop away during the last few games of this campaign,” he said. “We have a semi-final on Tuesday and there is a final against Farsley that we want to be in.
“There is still everything to play for – a win against the fifth-placed team and for positions in the team on Tuesday night. But we have that many injuries, which have really crept up on us, and that is why we have been so inconsistent.
“I am just trying to field a team at the moment and, hopefully, Marc Thompson will come through a reserve game and can be available for Saturday. We need him back in midfield.
“Tosh Reid has done well there but he is more of a right-back. It is hard work at the moment but every team gets injuries and we have got to deal with it.”
