TO the max will be the mantra for York’s Simon Dyson as he heads into tomorrow’s Volvo China Open on the European Tour.

The man who dropped two places in the world golf rankings after a joint 24th place in the Maybank Malaysian Open will be hoping he can iron out the costly last-day dip he suffered in Kuala Lumpur.

After three rounds of a thunderstorm-lashed event at the Kuala Lumpur Country Club, the 34-year-old Dyson was well on course for a top ten finish.

He lay in ninth spot after below-par rounds of 69, 70 and 70 again.

But he then posted a two-over par 74 which saw the Malton & Norton GC ace fall to a tie for 24th position and a prize of just over 19,000 euros.

Dyson will be partnered over the first two rounds at the China Open at the Binhai Lake club in the province of Tianjin by Belgium’s Nicolas Colsaerts and fellow Brit Paul Casey.

Ironically, it was after the Masters – Dyson’s first competitive action for more than three weeks – that nudged the York-born ace above Casey as the fifth-highest placed English player in the world ratings.
