THERE was never any doubt in Daniel Parslow’s mind that he would sign a new contract at York City.
The long-serving defender, about to go into his seventh season at Bootham Crescent, put pen to paper yesterday on a one-year deal with an option to extend and declared he couldn’t wait to begin a new chapter of his career in the Football League.
The 26-year-old said: “It was just a matter of getting together. It was just a matter of coming across and sorting it all out. Six seasons I have been with York, going into my seventh, and to grind, scrap and eventually get out of the Conference – I am relishing the opportunity to play for this club in the Football League. There is the hunger and the desire to play at that level, having been released from Cardiff a few years back.
“I have been itching to prove myself and prove to everyone that I am a Football League player.
“I am excited, I want the season to get under way and to hit the ground running. I have had six great years here and I can’t wait for the seventh.”
York City chairman Jason McGill added: “I’ve known Daniel for a long time now and, for me, he is Mr York City. He’s got the best interests of the club at heart. He focuses on the game. If you ask him to play right-back, centre-half, in the holding role in midfield, he just gets on with it.
“You need 20 Daniel Parslows in your team because they make what York City’s spirit and courage is all about. He’s got the scars on his head to prove it and, as a chairman and supporter, you want to have players who will give 100 per cent for the football club, who are proud to put the shirt on. What a lad Daniel is.”
