PICKERING Town wrapped up a rapid-fire double over derby rivals Tadcaster Albion in the Northern Counties East League premier division.
The Pikes scored two late goals to triumph at Ings Lane late last month and they repeated the dose for the Brewers, winning 3-1 in Saturday’s reverse fixture.
The home side did not leave it so late this time around, with prolific striker Liam Salt netting his 22nd goal of the season from the penalty spot to put the Pikes ahead on 24 minutes.
Joe Danby made it 2-0 on 57 minutes and Salt struck again five minutes later to leave Albion rocking.
Ryan Williams scored for the visitors on 70 minutes, but the damage was already done.
Seventh-placed Tadcaster will be aiming to make amends at Nostell Miners Welfare tomorrow (7.45pm).
Second-placed Scarborough Athletic trounced fourth-placed Worksop Parramore 6-0 to stay on the tail of leaders Bridlington.
The scorers were Denny Ingram, Ollie Banks, Ryan Blott, Peter Davidson, Matty Plummer and David Brown.
While Selby Town’s division one game with Bottesford Town was postponed, Knaresborough Town drew 2-2 at Worsbrough Bridge Athletic.
A stunning double strike from on-loan York City midfielder Tom Platt helped Harrogate Town to a 2-1 win at Colwyn Bay in Blue Square Bet North.
Platt opened the scoring with a 25-yard effort on 13 minutes and then netted a spectacular overhead kick on 28 minutes, before Danny Lloyd got one back for the hosts after the break.
Lowly Harrogate Railway Athletic pulled off a shock 4-2 home win over third-placed Clitheroe in Evo-Stik League division one north.
The hosts led 2-0 at half-time at Station View thanks to a 14th minute opener from Liam Hardy and a Jon Maloney goal four minutes before the break.
Clitheroe pulled back to level in the 77th minute with goals from Danny Mahoney and Chris Mason, but Railway’s Hardy completed his hat-trick to win the match, scoring in the 80th and 90th minutes.
