BRILLIANT Pickering Town toppled their collection of high-flying old boys Bridlington Town for the Northern Counties East League premier division’s result of the day.

The Pikes saw off Town 3-1 – and that after trailing 1-0 to a goal against the run of play from one-time Pike predator Josh Greening.

But assistant manager Dean Macauley, who led the team with manager Jimmy Reid bed-ridden by illness, said the hosts stuck to their principles of playing in the same fluent style and were duly rewarded.

The Pikes levelled within a minute of the second half, Joel Ramm half-volleying a Liam Shepherd cross over the Bridlington goalkeeper.

Tom Reid then lashed in a fizzing 35-yarder after his initial corner was cleared back to him before Joe Danby chased down a stoppage-time clearance from the Brid ’keeper, the rebound zipping into the net to seal the three points and inflict the first defeat in 18 matches on the visitors.

Said Macauley: “It was a pity Jimmy had to miss the win because the lads did brilliantly.

“Even when we trailed it was harsh on the way we had dominated the first half, but we stuck to our guns and got at them straight away.”

He added: “We’ve beaten all the top sides now, but even though though this is another good result, it counts for little if we don’t follow it up.”

There was a goal blitz too for Harrogate Town, who thrashed Blue Square Bet North anchor club Hinckley 5-0. Chib Chilaka (2), Adam Nowakowski, Shane Killock and on-loan York ace Tom Platt scored.

Selby Town's NCEL first division match at Albion Sports was called off due to a waterlogged pitch, as was Harrogate Railway Athletic's Evo-Stik division one north trip to New Mills.
