Sariska, a filly with strong York connections, makes her eagerly-awaited reappearance at Newmarket tomorrow.

On a card where the 1,000 Guineas takes pride of place, Sariska, a dual Oaks winner last year, runs in the Dahlia Stakes, likewise sponsored by StanJames.com.

Trained at Newmarket by Michael Bell, Sariska won the Musidora Stakes on Knavesmire last May and returned in August to finish second to Dar Re Mei in the Yorkshire Oaks.

Having finished off with a fine effort in the Champion Stakes, Sariska is now ready to begin her new campaign.

Her jockey, Jamie Spencer, was bullish about how she’d been working at home and, while the softer the ground the better for her, she is not to be underestimated on the prevailing conditions.

Special Duty gets the vote in the 1,000 Guineas.

Although she was defeated in her prep race, the French raider won the Cheveley Park Stakes here last autumn when she looked a class act.

There are any number of fillies in this 18-strong line-up with chances, among them Music Show, Seta and Rumoush, but Special Duty sets the standard and is expected to come out on top.

Glasgow trainer Jim Goldie rarely sends horses down to HQ without good reason and two of his runners are worthy of respect on the card.

Hillview Boy, a horse who started out running in bumpers, developed into a useful handicapper last season. There is probably more to come from him and he should not be overlooked in the StanJames.com Handicap.

Likewise, Goldie’s Hawkeyethenoo warrants close attention in the Bettingmadeeasy At StanJames.com Handicap.

The four-year-old has thrived since joining Goldie and being switched exclusively to sprints and ran out a convincing winner at Thirsk earlier this month. He can go well again.

At Hamilton, Fibs And Flannel bids to follow up his recent Beverley success for trainer Tim Easterby and owner Jim McGrath, a Channel 4 racing pundit and BHA director.

Fibs And Flannel has been raised 6lb for his success and is preferred to William Morgan, who shaped well on his debut at Ripon.

In the featured £16,000 totepool Buttonhook Handicap, Hawk Mountain is an interesting runner from John Quinn’s Norton yard.

A progressive performer last season, the five-year-old looks sure to pay his way again this season for owners, Nick Luck and Paul Morrison, both of whom work on the presentation front of Racing UK.

The nap vote is awarded to The Bear.
