Tadcaster Albion boss Paul Marshall is hoping fans will get the chance to see former Leeds and Liverpool legend Gary McAllister in action before the end of the campaign.

The 45-year-old veteran signed on at Ings Lane after playing with Marshall in an over-45s tournament and the Albion boss has not ruled out the Scottish international making an appearance.

Tadcaster are on the brink of promotion to the Northern Counties East League premier division, but Marshall, who has also signed former Selby Town players Tosh Reid and Tom Matthews, is keen not to disrupt a winning side.

That means Albion fans might have to wait to get their chance to see the midfielder, who won a league title at Leeds along with the UEFA Cup, FA Cup and League Cup with Liverpool.

Marshall said: “He’s told me that if I need him just to give him a ring. He’s got a wealth of experience and it would be great to have him turn out at Tadcaster Albion before the end of the season.

“It would put some bums on seats and he still looks a class player. I won’t use him unless I feel we need to bring him in. If we have enough points on the board there is the chance that the club might be able to get a view of him.”

Reid and Matthews’ captures are with a view towards next season and Marshall is hoping the pair will stay on at Tadcaster.

Albion entertain mid-table Bottesford Town tomorrow in second place and just a point off leaders Brighouse with three games in hand.

But Marshall is wary of his opponents and is not taking promotion for granted yet.

“We are not promoted yet but, the way we are playing there is no reason why we can’t finish what we have started,” he added. “In Tosh and Tom, we have two premier division players and it is nice to have them on board.

“I have got them just in case we slip up – I don’t want to disrupt the squad too much – and I am hoping they will both sign on for next season.

“Bottesford will be a very tough game. I think they have a good team and I don’t know why they are languishing in mid-table.”
