GOALS aplenty and five different marksmen to boot as Pickering Town romped to a 5-1 demolition of Dinnington Town.
The victory – the best since Mitch Cook took over as manager two months ago – lifted the Pikes to seventh in the Northern Counties East League premier division.
The hosts got off to a soaraway start with Tom Adams off the mark within the opening five minutes, a lead doubled by Josh Greening, brother of former York City ace Jonathan, on the half-hour.
Just before half-time Dinnington halved the deficit, but once George Rose restored Pikes’ two-goal cushion in the 61st-minute Cook’s charges seized total control.
In the last quarter of the game, goals from Darren Clough and Danny Glendinning underlined Pickering’s supremacy.
Tadcaster Albion’s irresistible rise to fourth place in the NCEL top-flight continued apace with a 2-0 victory over visiting Liversedge.
However, Albion had to wait until the second half to break the stalemate.
Three minutes after the interval, the prolific Graeme Whitehead was on target while Terry Taylor ensured there was to be no chance of a comeback with an 87th-minute strike.
The North Yorkshire success-rate continued with Selby Town 3-0 victors at Thackley United.
The Robins’ third league win of the season was boosted by a double blast from midfielder Chaz Wrigley, the recent signing from Pickering Town who has made the move to Flaxley Road with aplomb. In between his two goals Liam Davis was also on target.
Scarborough Athletic’s recent spell in the doldrums ended when they put hosts Armthorpe Welfare to the sword.
Leading 1-0 at half-time through a David Kemp goal, Athletic ensured the points with plunder in the final 20 minutes from Ron Northen and Richard Dunning.
