ACOMB’S ‘Hitman’ Chris Thompson dumped world number three James Wade out of the PDC Players Championship at Wigan.
Thompson beat reigning Premier League champion Wade 6-4 in the first round of the Robin Park Tennis Centre event and also overcame Patrick Pace 6-3 before succumbing 6-2 to 2005 World Championship finalist Mark Dudbridge in the last 32.
The legendary Phil Taylor later whitewashed Dudbridge in the final.
Rawcliffe’s Martyn Turner bowed out in the second round, losing 6-2 to two-time world champion Dennis Priestley, having earlier disposed of Adrian Gray 6-4.
John Quantock was knocked out 6-5 by Steve Musson after enjoying a 6-3 victory over Dave Honey in the preliminary round.
Quantock fared better in the Wigan UK Open qualifier, defeating Turner 6-0 and Stephen Hardy 6-4 to reach the third round, where he was beaten 6-2 by world number 19 Vincent van der Voort.
Thompson suffered a 6-5 first round exit against Sam Allen.
Taylor also enjoyed a 6-0 victory in the final of that competition against Jamie Caven.
