AMBITIOUS City of York Athletics Club thrower Les Richards stepped up his bid for Commonwealth Games qualification with a silver medal at the England Athletics Championships.
Richards, who went into the competition ranked eighth in the country, won silver in the shot putt, throwing close to his best with 17.12 metres.
Richards now has four weeks to achieve the qualifying standard of 18.50m and make the squad for the Games in Doha, India, from October 3 to 18.
Coach Paul Wilson said: “We both know he is capable of the qualification standard as he has done it in training.”
