Steve Kneeshaw led the way for Thirsk and Sowerby Harriers in the Clay Bank West Fell Race.

He was first of the 17 members home in the final race of the Club Championship series, which saw runners climbing up and over the Wain Stones. Kneeshaw was 16th in a time of 35 minutes 42 seconds, while Richard Hall was hot on his heels in 19th place, clocking 36-02.

Rob Burn was 23rd in 36-29, winning the prize for the first M55 finisher, while Stewart Mechie was 37th in 38-08 and Paul Atkinson, relishing his first fell race, came 50th in 40-11.

Ken Evitt was 75th in 42-23; Hester Cox 78th in 43-20; Angela Hall 79th, and first F50, in 43-27; Iain Milner 101st in 45-52; debutant Lorraine Hiles 113th, and 2nd F45, in 47-28; Ernie Huck 119th in 48-05; Alan Wikeley 120th in 48-16; Geoff Bullock 126th in 48-44; Pat Kirby 145th, and 1st F60, in 56-35; Ian Codling, 146th in 65-56; Pam Sherlock 152nd in 68-10; and Marian Codling 156th in 74-00.

Meanwhile, Gary Dunn and Dan Holdsworth joined a field of 6,000 in the Leeds Abbey Dash road race. Dunn finished 38th in 32-06, giving him fourth place in the V40 category, while Holdsworth clocked 39-43.

Noel Clough and Pete Wilkin travelled to Southampton for the latest National Points Cyclo Cross.

Clough was fifth in the V40 category, while Wilkin was fourth in the V50 section.

A severe frost put paid to the Thirsk 10 Road Race at the weekend.
