A FAR from happy return to the European Tour was made by York-born Simon Dyson.
Back in action for the first time in almost two months, the 33-year-old Dyson posted a modest two-over-par 74 in the first round of the Abu Dhabi Championship that put him ten shots adrift of leader, South Africa’s Charl Schwartzel.
Dyson suffered bogeys on the fifth and sixth holes. Though he got back a birdie on the par-three seventh, another dropped shot on the 12th left the world number 65 facing a battle to make the midway cut today.
Harrogate GC’s John Parry fared better with a two-under-par 70, bagging birdies on holes three four and 11 after opening with a bogey.
Danny Willett, trained at The Oaks GC by Graham Walker, was five-under.
