YORK’S St Olave’s School are celebrating a rugby union double.

Reigning champions St Olave’s successfully defended their Terrington Hall Under-11s Sevens Tournament crown and, a week later, the school’s U13s emulated the achievement in their age group event.

The ninth U11s competition attracted 14 teams from Aysgarth, Belmont Grosvenor, Birkdale, Bow, Bramcote, Cundall Manor, Lyndhurst, Mowden Hall, Newcastle School for Boys, St Martin’s Ampleforth, St Olave’s, of York, Sedbergh, Terrington Hall and Woodleigh.

But it was the York school that bossed the competition for the second straight year – booking their final place with an overpowering 26-0 victory over Lyndhurst.

Having shown themselves throughout to be a well-drilled machine, tenacious in defence and formidable in attack, the youngsters swept to the trophy with an emphatic 28-0 win over Cundall Manor.

Hosts Terrington Hall secured the plate competition with a 14-7 win over St Martin’s Ampleforth.

In the 12th annual U13s event, St Olave’s lifted the Cup after a 28-10 victory over St Mary’s Hall in the final.

The York school’s try scorers were George Gao, Harry Stodhart (2) and Harry Richardson, with Ben Williams adding four conversions.

In the semi-finals, St Olave’s ousted Easingwold 40-0 and St Mary’s toppled hosts Terrington Hall 17-0.

Cundall Manor beat St Martin’s Ampleforth 22-0 to take the Plate, while Newcastle School For Boys beat Terra Nova 15-7 to win the Bowl and Caldicott ‘B’ overcame Durham Choristers 12-7 to lift the inaugural Shield.

The teams taking part included Cundall Manor, Easingwold, Fyling Hall, Malton, Mowden Hall, Pocklington, Red House, Ryedale School, Scarborough College, Sedbergh, St Martin’s Ampleforth, Terrington Hall, Woodleigh and Yarm.
