Heworth ARLC Under-17s enjoyed a well-earned 28-12 win at Kippax in their second game of term.

Tries by man-of-the-match Will Barratt, Jason Smith and Fraser West, after good work by Josh Poulter, Harry Deighton and Adam Lovett, plus two goals by Deighton, gave the Villagers a 16-4 half-time lead. Debutant Matt Durkin was also held inches short, while fierce tackling from Poulter, Smith, Danny Simpson and full-back Alex Clough kept the hosts at bay.

Kippax closed the gap to four points but Heworth got back to their task, defending well and firing the ball wide when possible. West grabbed his second try, converted by Deighton, and the hard-working Barratt sealed the win with his second late on.

York Acorn U16s let a decent lead slip for the third game in a row as they drew 16-16 with Dewsbury Moor.

Acorn got on top in the forwards and were rewarded when excellent handling twice sent in Jarrod Smith.

Big Tom Gurden crashed over, and, when more good work from half-backs Harry Bromwich and Ash Robson sent Josh Potter in, they led 16-6. However Dewsbury hit back. Skipper Bromwich, Jamal Ahmed, Charlie Settle, Rich Ashton and man-of-thematch Robson stood out.

Liam Richmond scored a hat-trick but could not prevent injury-hit Heworth U15s losing 32-26 at Newsome. Daz Harris and Ryan Martin also crossed, with Jonny Rawsthorne adding three goals.

Heworth saw Andy Spencer fracture a finger, Spencer Mahaffey suffer a knee injury and Ryan Barker go home with concussion, and, despite moments of brilliance, they lost to a better team on the day. Newcomer Coalan Smart was top tackler, with Richmond and Josh Turley the men of the match.

York Acorn U15s bemoaned questionable refereeing as they lost 34-20 to a good East Leeds side.

Acorn trailed 22-0 on the back of countless penalties before Reef Wilson cut the gap. Acorn came back into it in the second half, with tries from Alex Smith (2) and Jacob Walker.

The pacy Matthew Ford scored a hat-trick as New Earswick U14s backed up a tough 30-14 win at Doncaster with a 64-12 rout of Keighley.

Other tries came from Harry Radcliffe, with a fulllength effort, Charlie Hill, man-of-the-match Aaran Naismith, Alex Thomas (2) and Rob Kay, with goals by Radcliffe and Jacob Sunderland.

Milo Dawson was top tackler, while Dan Bilsbrough was most improved.

Heworth U12s played out a sloppy game against an understrength Hunslet Parkside, although they were good defensively in a 22-4 win. Man-of-the-match Zack Wilson scored his first two tries for the club, and Tom Kilgar, Lester Massey and Jake Wright also crossed.

Shay North, Sam Young and Lewis Coward also stood out.

Man-of-the-match Charlie Nicholson and Jak Ostergaard scored hat-tricks as Heworth U10s outscored Hunslet Parkside by seven tries to three. Luke Prenty made a great break and offloaded for Ostergaard’s first try, while the outstanding Kian Oliver also crossed after a superb chip and chase.

Taylor McDonough scored a try and was man of the match in New Earswick U10s’ good contest with Knottingley Rockware. Top tackler Lewis Young (2) and girl-of-the-game Ellena Powell also scored, while Joshua Kelly had a full-length effort ruled out. Joshua Walton took the ‘magic moment’ award for a thundering drive and Ryan Kendra was the parents’ player of the match.

Heworth U9s impressed defensively to shut out Crigglestone All Blacks. Leon Howarth was man of the match on debut, Will Spencer scored a length-of-the-field try, Myles Harrison bagged his second hat-trick in two weeks, and other touchdowns came from Ellis Hunter, Callum Rutland, Jack Young, Kane Cavanagh and most improved player Callum Dunmore.

Sam Hunt had a great game in only his third outing as New Earswick U8s battled away in their tough match at Hunslet Warriors.

Fancy footwork saw Joe Harrison score twice, Charlie Robinson bulldozed over, and parents’ man of the match Charlie Severs crossed from one of his strong runs.

Tommy Naismith also shone.

Alfie Outterson, Brooklyn Lawton, Lucas Burden, Jay Richardson, Kian Ogilvie, Oliver Platt (2) and Jake Edgar (2) all scored tries in Heworth U8s’ first game of term, at Wibsey. Josh Gallimore also impressed.
