York Ladies lost 34-10 at Leigh East in a tough Women’s Amateur Rugby League Association Winter League encounter – but the scoreline did not reflect the match.
Two tries and a conversion put Leigh ahead before the visitors hit back when a high kick was allowed to bounce by the Leigh defence with York prop Kelly Hall first to the ball. Her try was converted by Carly Hilton.
Leigh regained a ten-point advantage just before the break with another converted try, but York started the second half brightly, with Bev Langan powering over for a four-pointer.
York probably deserved more for their efforts and they never gave up, but they saw Leigh add to their lead with three converted tries midway through the half.
York’s player-of-the-match was second-rower Chelsea Moore backed up well by centre Hayley Worthington and loose-forward Langan.
