YORK College’s rugby league team turned over opposition from a higher tier when winning 32-20 at Calderdale College – despite a penalty count of 13-2 against them.
York, coached by York City Knights star Chris Thorman, scored tries through Ash Winstanley (2), Tom Aitken (2), Chris Rushworth and Elliot Craven, a former rugby union player from Huddersfield who has moved to York. Tyler Craig added four goals. Centre Jordan Deighton was Thorman’s pick as man of the match.
York have been riding high in division two of the Yorkshire colleges league, while Calderdale are former division one champions.
