New weekly touch rugby league sessions are starting at York College tonight – and former Hull KR, Castleford and Salford star Chris Charles with be there to lead the first session.

The Rugby Football League’s North Yorkshire Service Area has arranged sessions to run at York College, on Sim Balk Lane, on Thursdays from 6.30pm to 7.30pm, for ten weeks. Sessions are also continuing at Huntington School on Wednesday evenings They are aimed at letting people play for fun rather than partake in drills, though Charles will offer tips for those looking to improve. Players must be 16 or older though no previous playing experience is needed. An RFL coach will lead the sessions.

For information or to book a place – which costs £3 per session, or £25 for the ten weeks – phone community coach Adam Prentis on 07557 430347 or email A.Prentis@wlct.org.

Charles, 36, a loose-forward with Hull KR, Castleford, Salford and later player-coach at French club Villeneuve, now works full time for the RFL as a league for all officer.
