Pocklington RUFC ground out another close 14-10 victory at home to Doncaster Phoenix in Yorkshire Two.

The hosts took their chances in an even first half-hour and led 8-0 at the break thanks to a good try in the corner from wing Charlie Allen and a penalty from full-back Nick Bennett.

But they then missed a couple of golden opportunities which would have put them in control at half-time.

Play became disjointed in the second half with Pocklington being increasingly frustrated as the visitors were allowed to kill possession at the ruck.

Indiscipline, meanwhile, also cost both sides with Pocklington playing the last half an hour with 14 men due to a red card.

Doncaster too had 14 for 20 minutes in the second half thanks to two yellows.

The end-to-end pattern saw Doncaster pull back to 11-10 as Bennett kicked another penalty and then Doncaster grabbed a converted try and a penalty.

Pocklington were unlucky when wing Dan Pickard forced his way over and was certain he had scored but he was adjudged to have been held up.

The game remained in the balance until Pocklington regained their composure and Bennett made it safe with his third penalty with seven minutes to go.
