YORK City's match with AFC Fylde this afternoon has been postponed due to a frozen pitch.

For the second time this week, the LNER Community Stadium has fallen victim to the cold weather, with the pitch deemed unplayable by the match officials.

York confirmed yesterday that there would be a 12pm pitch inspection conducted by the match officials, with cold temperatures stretching over the city.

City's postponement happened for the second time this week after Tuesday night's match with Dorking Wanderers was also called off due to a frozen pitch.

York's postponement joins a long line in the Vanarama National League, with just four matches remaining on as it stands.

Manager Neal Ardley had expressed his hope for the match to be played in yesterday's press conference, saying: "We discussed after the Dorking game this weekend’s game and what we needed to do for this weekend’s game.

"For me, if we call a pitch inspection on Friday and now, the game won’t be played because the temperature hasn’t warmed up.

"If I look at the temperature all of the time for training and different reasons and tomorrow it says that by one o’clock it is going to be six degrees, I want to play the game.

"Would you make the call on Friday so that nobody has travelled, or would you give the game every chance of being played? For me, I would rather give the game until 12 o’clock or whatever time tomorrow to give the pitch the best chance of being thawed out.

"I’m not an expert, maybe I’ll get it wrong but I’m trying to give the game every chance.

“It’s not easy, there’s the opposition with their travel and their expenses and the crowd, you’ve got to think about everything.

"It’s a really difficult scenario, I’m not in charge of whether the game will be on or off and I’m not in charge of whether the pitch will thaw out.

"I’m sure that if you spoke to Fylde and said ‘can we give this every chance?’, I’d like to think that both parties would say yes.

"If they said that they didn’t want to travel and to make the call at three o’clock on Friday, then I’d say that the pitch hasn’t quite warmed up yet and we’re not giving it a chance.

“The frost sheets have been on quite a bit and I think you can only have frost sheets on for a certain amount of time.

"I believe that the frost sheets have to come off at some point otherwise it kills the pitch, the only thing we can hope for now is nature."

Elsewhere, Tadcaster Albion and Pickering Town's matches have been postponed, whilst Selby Town's game away to Harrogate Railway has passed a pitch inspection and remains on.

The match will be re-scheduled for a later date.
