CAPTAIN marvel Jordan Ross will happily run naked around York City Knights’ ground if it means his side win Sunday’s Grand Final.

Ross might have won the Players’ Player of the Year and be a contender for the Press/Northern Rail Player of the Year, but, surprisingly, he is also the only first-team regular not to have crossed the whitewash this season.

And the traditional forfeit for any player going through the campaign without a try is an enforced naked lap of the pitch.

Ross, though, was not too concerned. “It would be good to score in the 79th minute to give us the win,” he joked ahead of the promotion showdown with Oldham at Warrington’s Halliwell Jones Stadium.

“That’s what I’m banking on – I think it’s destiny. It’s meant to happen on Sunday.”

Asked if he would try to break his duck by holding on to possession even if a simple scoring pass was on, he said: “If it’s 100 per cent going to be a try, I will pass. The game is obviously bigger than all that, and I will do whatever if it means we win.

“I wouldn’t be doing a naked lap at Warrington, obviously, but I would have to do it at some stage I guess. I’m not worried about it.”

Ross, 25, is moving to Australia at the end of the season, although he has delayed his flight after being picked for Wales in the Alitalia European Cup next month, as revealed by The Press.

He will then fly down under, and stay with his Aussie girlfriend while his visa is processed around November time.

If that application is unsuccessful, he will return to England – and the Knights – next season, but, as it stands, this will be his last game for the club after two seasons and 41 appearances.

Ross, pictured above, is desperate to go out on a high.

“Winning the play-off final would mean absolutely everything to me,” said the back-rower. “Being the club captain has been a great responsibility and one that I have relished. To be given the opportunity to leave on a winning note is indescribable.

“The fans are very important to us. They’re among the most vocal and are up there with the best set of fans I’ve ever seen so to win for them would be fantastic.

“I couldn’t put into words what it would mean for me to leave as a final-winning captain.”

The Knights, beaten at Oldham in the qualifying semi-final before seeing off Blackpool in Sunday’s elimination semi-final, are going through the same training pattern as last week, finishing with a session tomorrow morning.

Ross said: “It worked last week. We’re confident again, like we were for the Blackpool game. People are really looking forward to it. I’ve had lots of text messages saying people can’t wait for Sunday.

“We were desperate for a rematch with Oldham. We were very close to beating them two weeks ago and we knew we had to go out and bounce back straight away to give ourselves the opportunity of a rematch. We’ve done that and the mood in camp is great.

“Oldham are a different kind of test to Blackpool. They’re a good side with a lot of good players. Blackpool are as well but Oldham are maybe a bit more consistent.

“They don’t make mistakes and their defence is good and they have a few players who can win a game. But if we perform like we did on Sunday we will pressure them into making errors like Blackpool did. They were never in it really. Our forwards got on top pretty quickly and our defence was quick and tight.

“We know what to expect on Sunday and we’re sure that if we do what we need to do we’ve got the players to beat them.”
