GLENCOR Golf Holidays is a York-based family-run tour operator.
Originally started in 1995 by ‘golf mad’ Peter Renton, the business has grown significantly in recent years, partly due to Peter’s sons getting on board and improving the firm’s digital offering.
Its seven-strong team are passionate about golf and have put thousands of customers on fairways across the UK and Ireland. Glencor Golf Holidays also specialises in golfing breaks and holidays to Spain, Portugal, France, Cyprus, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Bulgaria, Morocco and Turkey.
The business is led by four family members, and is in the running for Family Business of the Year.
Founders, husband and wife Peter and Jill Renton, ran the business from home successfully for many years by originally focusing on offering Spain and Portugal as a golf holiday destinations. Six years ago, youngest son Glen joined the team after leaving his job in sales at a local firm. Like his father, Glen is an avid golfer so his previous experience coupled with his ability to communicate effectively with prospective clients about their favourite pastime helped drive the business forward. Eldest son Corrie joined four years ago and has helped improve the online presence of Glencor Golf Holidays thanks to his degree in e-business and his experience of working in the digital sector.
Each member of the family is a director. They agree strategy and direction of the company at monthly management meetings.
Despite competing with tour operators that have much greater resources, Glencor Golf Holidays secures lots of return bookings due to its personal service, passion for golf and in-depth knowledge of golf courses both home and abroad.
