THIS independent interiors shop and design space sits just a few moments away from the historic city walls.
The concept and ethos of Upside Down Design is a simple one, says owner Carole Whitby whose shop is up for New Business of the Year.
“We don’t sell anything that we wouldn’t love to have in our own homes.”
Before opening at the end of September 2017, the Upside Down design team researched the gap in the York market for a design space and homeware shop and found that there is nothing like it available in York.
In its beautiful old building at 27 Bootham, you will find eclectic, contemporary and slightly eccentric mix of products and gifts.
The shop also features work by artists and makers, and wide range of ethically sourced products from around the world.
The team has grown from six to eight.
Manager Justine has been leading the team from the beginning and says: “We source quality products for all budgets, whether customers are shopping for themselves, a gift for a friend, need advice on paint or want to undertake a full scale refurbishment, this is something York hasn’t seen before and I love being part of this exciting business.”
The stock changes regularly and the team are keen interior trend followers, so ensure that their products reflect current fashions.
The window displays reflect the seasons with colourful displays in the summer and autumnal tones to follow, plus special dates like Father’s Day and Mother’s Day, with gift ideas in the window that won’t break the bank.
