FOR comedian Billy Connolly, a good curry is serious business.
Ask Rakib Ali, owner of the new Mumbai Lounge restaurant in Fossgate, York.
The Scottish funnyman was a regular at Rakib’s former restaurant, the Nawaabs, in Aberdeen, and was so impressed with the food and service that he hired him to undertake the catering for a social gathering at his home.
Film star Steve Martin was among the guests.
Now Rakib has used his experience to launch the Mumbai Lounge in April and such has been the response from curry lovers in York and beyond, that he is targeting the titles for both the New Business Of The Year and Tourism And Hospitality Business Of The Year in The Press Business Awards 2010.
Rakib lured Zaman, a leading chef from London, to create a dazzling menu with a mouthwatering range of the best of Indian and Bangladeshi cuisine.
As the word of that food gets around, along with its modern décor, the restaurant is also promoting its downstairs function room for private parties or business meetings and Rakib is in talks with various organisations about supplying them with ready-made curries for their clients and workforce.
